About

Silverlens is thrilled to announce its participation in Art Basel Hong Kong for the 12th year from 26 to 30 March 2025, featuring a wide breadth of the gallery’s program from its Manila and New York City locations. This year's highlights include multi-disciplinary artist Catalina Africa (b.1988, Manila, Philippines; lives and works in Baler, Philippines) who in 2024 received the Thirteen Artists Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines; London-based artist Nicole Coson (b.1992, Manila) whose solo exhibition opens in Silverlens Manila this month; and Patricia Perez Eustaquio (b. 1977, Cebu, Philippines; lives and works in Benguet Province, Philippines), whose works will travel to Art Basel in Switzerland as part of Silverlens' presentation in June. Rounding out the booth are works by Poklong Anading (b. 1975, Manila, Philippines; lives and works in Manila), Keka Enriquez (b.1962, Manila, Philippines; lives and works in San Francisco, California), Gregory Halili (b.1975, Manila, Philippines; lives and works in Manila), Wawi Navarroza (b.1979, Manila, Philippines), Citra Sasmita (b. 1990, Bali; lives and works in Bali), and Yee I-Lann (b.1971, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia; lives and works in Kota Kinabalu).

For Art Basel’s Kabinett sector, light and media artist James Clar will present Cloud Seed (Autumn), an interactive video work immersing the viewer in a simulation of rain and fog, alongside a new work in Clar’s Parol series, referencing a Filipino star-shaped lantern, symbolizing hope, joy, and the triumph of light over darkness. It also serves as a reminder of home and family.

For Art Basel Hong Kong 2025’s Encounters sector—dedicated to large-scale sculpture, installation, and performance by leading artists from around the world—Silverlens, in collaboration with Tina Kim Gallery, is proud to present Pacita Abad and Pio Abad. Conceived by artist and Pacita Abad Art Estate curator Pio Abad and Encounters curator Alexie Glass-Kantor, the presentation features three large-scale paintings in Pacita’s signature trapunto technique, which combines stitching, padding, and embellishing painted canvases. Towering in scale, these monumental works stand out for their verticality, their intricate patterns and textures inviting viewers to admire these fine details up close. Their evocative titles—Through the Looking Glass (1996), Fly Into a Rage (2000), and The Sky is the Limit (2000)—reflect Pacita’s use of abstraction as a vehicle for emotional expression, particularly following the loss of her mother in 1991.

Art Basel Hong Kong opens on 26 March 2025 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Visit Silverlens’ presentations at Booth 1B12 and EN1.
